Characteristics:
Chitalpa is a rapid-growing, deciduous tree that typically grows to 40' tall with a dense, spreading, oval crown. A tough, drought tolerant plant, adapted to the southwestern U.S. Large clusters of rich pink-purple flowers crown the canopy of this unique hybrid in early summer. Tree form and branch structure are superior to earlier Chitalpa-Catalpa selections.

Growing Conditions:
Full sun. This tree is considered drought-tolerant and is fairly hardy, surviving temperatures as low as 0 degrees F (USDA hardiness Zone 6).

Attractive, medium-sized landscape or street tree with a long summer flowering period.

More Information:
Chitalpa is a hybrid flowering tree, bred from Desert Willow (Chilopsis linearis) for desert hardiness and color, and Southern Catalpa (Catalpa bignonioides) for larger blooms. It is a smaller flowering tree that fits in well with many contemporary landscapes.
