Friends of Trees' Green Space Initiative guides volunteers at watershed restoration projects throughout the Portland-Vancouver metro area.

Through Friends of Trees' three-year partnership with the Oregon Department of Transportation and Metro, Green Space volunteers are planting thousands of trees and shrubs along the I-205 multi-use path from the Columbia River south to the city of Gladstone.

The path is used by bicyclists, pedestrians and TriMet travelers and crosses some of Portland's most culturally and economically diverse neighborhoods. The new trees will reduce air pollution, increase neighborhood livability, provide habitat for wildlife and songbirds, and beautify a well-traveled transportation corridor.

As part of the project, 16 jobs were created for under-served and minority youth through a partnership with the Portland Development Commission, Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center and Worksystems, Inc.

Watch these videos of the kick-off planting and the Jan. 23 planting.

This colorful flyer also provides information about the project's goals and its growing group of supporters.
