Tree order deadlines are approaching for several Vancouver neighborhoods where Friends of Trees is organizing community tree plantings this fall. To order street or yard trees for upcoming plantings, homeowners just need to create an online account at "Order Street & Yard Trees" at www.FriendsofTrees.org. Online accounts should be created by the following dates to allow time for the permitting process required before the trees can be purchased:

Sept. 22 deadline for the Nov. 15 planting and Neighborhood Trees Crew Leader Training in Vancouver Heights
Nov. 17 deadline for the Jan. 17 planting in Cascade Highlands, Cascade Southeast, Fisher's Creek, Mountain View and Bennington
Dec. 15 deadline for the Feb. 14 planting in Image, North Image, Parkside, Parkway East and North Hearthwood
Jan. 19 deadline for the March 14 planting in Arnada, Carter Park, Central Park, Fourth Plain Village, Hough, Hudson's Bay, Lincoln, Northwest, Rose Village, Shumway and West Minnehaha

If you have questions as you place your order, please contact your neighborhood coordinator listed on the web site calendar at "Plant with Us."

To fulfill our mission of building community and increasing tree canopy, Friends of Trees offers trees to homeowners at less than half—sometimes less than five percent—of the actual $175 cost. Most of the time homeowners pay even less than Friends of Trees pays the wholesale nursery to buy the tree, and we also need to cover the cost of staff, insurance, trucks and gas, tools, volunteer recruitment, and training. To fill the gaps, Friends of Trees relies on grants and donations.

Friends of Trees brings people in the Portland-Vancouver area together to plant and care for city trees and urban natural areas. Last year Friends of Trees planted 250 percent more trees in Vancouver than we planted during the previous planting season. Working in partnership with the City of Vancouver's Urban Forestry Program, Friends of Trees hopes to dramatically increase the number of trees planted in Vancouver again this year.
